Description

The Sturgis One-Room School is a restored African-American school built circa 1900. The school operated until 1937, when it was shut down until community activists in 1996 purchased it and moved the building to downtown Pocomoke. Now, the school serves as museum for visitors and school groups to learn about what life was like for African-Americans in the early part of the 20th century, right her in Worcester County. It is the only African American school-room in Worcester County. Next door, the Heritage House is a must see with its early furniture & related exhibits.
